IMPACT Justice Co-Sponsors Public Lecture in St. Lucia

The Canadian Government-funded Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice) Project was one of the co-sponsors of the Right Honourable Sir Vincent Floissac Memorial Public Lecture hosted by the St. Lucia Bar Association. IMPACT Justice is a five-year regional justice sector reform project being implemented from within the Caribbean Law Institute Centre, UWI, Cave Hill Campus.

The event tookplace at the Palm Haven Conference Room, Palm Haven Hotel, Rodney Bay, Gros Islet on Thursday, December 8th, 2016. Mr. Michael Bruce Garnet Gordon, Q.C., retired Justice of Appeal of the OECS, delivered the Right Honourable Sir Vincent Floissac Memorial Lecture. Mr. Donovan Walker, Immediate Past President of the Bar Association of Jamaica, delivered a lecture on Continuing Legal Professional Development (CLPD) – The Jamaican Experience.

Mr. Walker’s participation in the event was sponsored by IMPACT Justice as part of its mandate to sensitise attorneys-at-law and the public about the benefits of CLPD. IMPACT Justice has already facilitated several CLPD sensitisation lectures in the region. These were held in St. Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Barbados and Belize, and were presented by Hon. Michael Hylton, O.J., Q.C., Immediate Past Chairman of the General Legal Council of Jamaica.
